The Manager of Development Research & Analytics will be responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and administering a robust program of data management, research and analytics services to the Independence Mission Schools Development Department. These services will include, but are not limited to, database management, prospect identification and research, data analytics, portfolio maintenance, and reporting. The Manager will work in collaboration with the Development Operations Manager to support the efforts of the Annual Giving team, Director of Donor Impact (MGO), Director of Donor Engagement, and Chief Development Officer, having significant impact on the achievement of fundraising goals, both annual and relating to a soon-to-be launched five-year fundraising campaign.

 

The Manager will provide training for effective use of the donor database, be the main point of contact for related questions, identify and resolve data integrity issues as well as implement new policies and procedures as needed. They will represent Development and work collaboratively with Finance, Information Technology Departments, as well as designated staff contacts at each school. This role will require a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity, as well as a strong base of knowledge in the areas of database functionality, data hygiene, and analysis, fundraising protocols, non-profit best practices.

 

This position, reporting to the Director of Donor Engagement, is a 29-hour/week Part-time position, and may be performed primarily in a remote capacity, with occasional in-person work requirements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as primary point of contact for DonorPerfect, DonorSearch, credit card and online gift processing software partnerships.
  • Takes ownership of service contracts, troubleshooting, determining effectiveness of data management systems, and proposing alternatives when necessary.
  • Serves as team leader for efforts to understand constituent data by providing analysis and making recommendations for segmentation efforts.
  • Develops and maintains expertise in research and fundraising software packages by attending trainings, self-study and utilizing all available software helpdesk resources.
  • Responsible for the management and integrity of constituent data, taking the lead on all augmentation, clean-up of existing data and continuing to ensure data is current, consistent, accurate, accessible, and useful.
  • Evaluates and continuously improves data procedures including establishing a standard audit routine and monthly reconciliations between Development and Finance, working with the Development Operations Manager to implement and execute procedures with fidelity.
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of donor information and upholds IMS policies regarding confidential information, evaluating and offering recommendations when necessary.
  • Develops standard, custom, and periodic progress reports, in order to then extract, analyze, synthesize and turn accurately recorded data into actionable results and recommendations to assist with revenue projections, goal setting, strategy development, tracking, portfolio management, etc.
  • Performs list pulls for direct mail, appeals, e-blasts, invitations and other communications with an eye for precision, strategy, and stewardship.
  • Establishes, manages, and updates a policies and procedures manual for correct and agreed upon data entry and database management.
  • Coordinates and oversees training of Development team in the proper use of software.
  • Works with Development team members to identify prospects and provides research for frontline fundraisers to strategically qualify and create targeted individual donor portfolios.
  • Verifies wealth, capacity, and giving likelihood ratings for new and existing donors.
  • Possesses and demonstrates a high-level of knowledge and understanding of the donor database.
  • Supports and participates in the entry of biographical and demographic data.
  • Supervises and supports gift entry and timely acknowledgement of gifts in collaboration with the Development Operations Manager & Director of Donor Engagement.
  • Assists with mailings, filing, meeting preparations, reporting, gift entry, bank deposits, and other clerical functions as needed and/or in the absence of the Development Operations Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Data management certifications a plus
  • Years of Experience: 5+ years working with and/or managing CRM systems. Preferred working knowledge or expertise of DonorPerfect. Experience in Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or other donor software also considered
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, is required
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and execute on complex and detail-oriented concurrent projects, sometimes with quick turnaround
  • Ability to think analytically and critically in order to draw conclusions, offer recommendations, and provide summary data with confidence
  • Proven ability to work with a team in both in-person and remote settings, and to evaluate user needs, requests, and problems; display sound judgment in designing solutions
  • Strong familiarity or experience with the workings of a nonprofit organization, particularly in the area of development/advancement services
  • Maintain a positive customer service-oriented mentality when managing requests, communicating with other departments, schools and donors

  • Status: Part-Time
  • Hours: 25 - 30/wk
