The Deputy Chief of School Operations (DCSO) is a member of the IMS Leadership Team and is responsible for ensuring the IMS central office provides exceptional service to schools in the areas of Enrollment, Facilities, and Technology. The DCSO works strategically toward its priorities, in support of the network’s mission. The role works closely with IMS’ Chief of Staff in setting the vision and direction for school operations, and ensuring staff execute on that vision. In addition, the role works closely with the entire Leadership Team, inclusive of the President, Chief Schools Officer, Deputy Chief Academic Officer, Chief Development Officer, and Deputy Chief of Finance and Accounting, who work collectively to ensure that each functional area is aligned toward the most important priorities, that urgent issues are effectively assigned and handled, and that organization-wide culture and management is consistent. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Enrollment and Tuition

• Oversee network-level enrollment and tuition functions; manage Senior Manager of Network Enrollment & Marketing.
• Work with the IMS Central Finance team to develop budgeted enrollment targets for each school, accounting for both historical trends and the need to continue growing IMS schools.
• Support school-level admissions teams in achieving their enrollment goals, ongoing training, and other professional development opportunities.  
• Partner with the IMS Marketing team to develop actionable and impactful enrollment outreach and marketing initiatives.
• Support the utilization of the enrollment database system. 

• Facilities

• Manage Director of Facilities to ensure all IMS schools are safe, clean, and welcoming learning environments.
• Ensure that annual operating and capital expenditure budgets accurately reflect facilities maintenance needs as well as strategic plan investments.
• Support the Director of Facilities to ensure that facilities investments/maintenance are being delivered on-time and at a high level of quality.
• Support schools in their recordkeeping and regulatory compliance (health inspections, asbestos inspections, etc.).

• Information Technology

• Supervise Senior Manager of Network IT to create and implement an overall network IT strategy, including vendor management and support systems across all 14 schools.
• Work closely with consultants and partners to maximize funding streams for school technology (FCC E-Rate program, Comcast Affordable Connectivity program, etc.).
• Help facilitate the partnership and coordination with the Academics Team for IT execution.   

• Additional School Operations

• Liaison closely with the School District of Philadelphia and other districts to ensure that all IMS schools and students have access to transportation and health services.
• Coordinate with the Archdiocese’s Nutritional Development Services (NDS) to ensure that all IMS schools and students have access to free and nutritional breakfast, lunch, and after-school snacks.
• Build pastor relations - especially as it relates to communication regarding facilities.
• Support schools in their recordkeeping and regulatory compliance including engaging with city inspectors as needed.

• Special Projects

• Manage and support cross-functional projects as discussed with the Leadership Team – e.g., strategic planning process, school leader operations onboarding/handbooks, etc.

 

Experience & Education:

• Passionate belief in the mission of Independence Mission Schools.
• Experience successfully leading and supervising teams and achieving results
• Experience in an educational setting is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
• Successful candidates must be able to clear all background check and clearance requirements.

Professional Skills:

• Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently; ability to work independently.
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents.
• Ability to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of existing school operations and assess how best to allocate resources.
• An orientation towards outcomes and the flexibility and willingness to do whatever it takes to achieve them – which includes the need for patience in times of change
